Pretty but not worth $200 Other than looks, machine has very basic features that you can get with a $30 coffee maker. Strange set-up design with a knob on the side that seems easy to break off. I got rid of the plastic taste someone else complained about by running water through it 6-7 times, but ultimately returned the unit because the keep warm function didn’t work when the machine was auto programmed. Descaling Design Problem Still Exists with Newer Model This is my second SMEG coffee maker. I also owned the original version. I wanted this newer version because of the incessant beeping and 20 minute limit on the hotplate. This version corrects those two design problems, but one huge problem remains. At seemingly random times, the coffee maker will not come on when you push the ON button but will signal it needs to be descaled first.
